Progressive Biography
My journey with Progressive rock began before I even knew what the term meant. When I was around 14 years old, I decided to pick up the Echoes: Best of Pink Floyd 2-disc set. From there, I started learning about all of Floyd's discography and various solo projects. I then found out about Yes, Rush, Genesis, and all the "big names" associated with Prog. When I was doing searches on the web, I found this site and decided to join the forums in early July of this year.
Since joining the site, my tastes have evolved drastically. I found about so many bands I would have never heard of had I not come here. I now am an avid fan of the Canterbury/fusion sub-genres, I'm in the process of discovering bands like Univers Zero, Art Zoyd, some Krautrock, etc... At this moment, my favorite band is Soft Machine and various solo and side projects and bands associated with them. Also, prog is not the only genre of music I like. I enjoy post-punk, some classical and jazz, electronica, etc... I would like to get as much music is I can, but it's hard because I'm a college student (although I still manage to collect vinyl!!!).
Favorite Bands:
The Enid
SKY (the UK/AUS one)
Soft Machine
Nucleus
Magma
King Crimson
Egg
Gong
National Health
Godspeed You! Black Emporer
Gilgamesh
and a multitude more!
