3 stars To start, this album is not prog at all. But since it is on PA, i will review it. Death was one of those american bands from the mid 80's who wanted to shock the rock/metal scene. And with this album, they sure do!

The guitar has way too much distortion, and the not-so-good production doesn't make it much better. The lyrics are very brutal, and is about hell, torture, killing people, death etc... and are sung in death metal growls. Before purchasing this, i must warn you, Chuck is no Mikael Åkerfeldt. He sings brutal without any melody, and his growls are miles behind the cookie-monster Åkerfeldt.

The best songs here are "Denial of Life", "Scream Bloody Gore" & "Zombie Ritual". And of course, there is songs that are not very good, like "Sacrificial" with has disgusting lyrics. The most melodic/proggy moment here must be the intro to "Evil Dead". Too bad the rest of the song isn't like that at all.

Why i like this album, is because it's sheer brutality and evil-ness, if there is such a word. I would rate this 1/5 on a prog scale, but i rate it 3.5/5 anyway. Underrated by the people on PA!
