3 stars This Italian short-lived band from Treviso was found in early-90's by Asgard's original bassist Glauco Giacchello, who quit before the release of ''Götterdämmerung''.Marathon included also bassist Fernando Mastromatteo, drummer Gianluca Pistolato, keyboardist Marco D'Iseppi, while Giacchello handles the guitars and vocals.Their debut ''Impossible Is Possible'' came out in 1993 on WMMS/Music Is Intelligence.

The music draws some lines within the ASGARD territory of Neo Prog, although it is more upfront, definitely less dark and also less symphonic.Marathon played a more dynamic MARILLION-esque type of Progressive Rock with Giacchello's voice having an evident FISH color, just a bit accented, while the music is catchy but always served with some good instrumental ideas.Filled with rather short tracks the album offers typical song structures, nice lead guitars, lyrical themes and diverse synthesizers to result an accesible mix of Neo Prog with a fair amount of RUSH-type of Heavy Rock added for good measure.Without being outstanding, ''Impossible Is Possible'' will reward the listener with memorable themes, some fine guitar solos along with strong keyboard flashes and a decent vocalist with a theatrical twist, while at moments the music recalls the unique approach of ASGARD.

Decent Neo Prog, do not expect something that will blow your mind, but Giachello's presence guarantees a good quality regarding the album.Recommended, especially if you are deep into ASGARD's music.
