4 stars This is actually Maestoso's first album, recorded live before either of their two studio albums "One Drop in a Dry World" and "Grim": the songs performed at this gig come from Woolly's solo period following his departure from Barclay James Harvest, as well as from his time with that group.

The first thing to say is that neither the sound quality nor the performance are sufficiently polished to make this a classic album. However, the beauty of the songs is such that it must be classified as a great album.

It is clear from listening to this performance, perhaps more so than Maestoso's studio albums, the huge influence that Woolly had over Barclay James Harvest's early period. Certainly, none of the other two writers in that band have the ability to create such gorgeous melodies and such wonderful arranagements as Woolly.

If you have never heard any of his work then, unlike other reviewers, I would actually say this is the best place to start. Just park any reservations about the sound (it's not that bad really!) and listen to pieces such as "Deceivers All", "Will to Fly", "In Search of England" and "Early Morning" to name just a few. Gorgeous stuff!

Got a tenner left over from Christmas? Go and get this now!
