3 stars This is usually said to be the worst GG album, so I expected very little of it. I gave it a try, though, and I was surprised: I do enjoy it. Of course this is not prog at all, and it's not a pop masterpiece either, but if you forget that the band is GG and take it as, say, a Cheap Trick or a Mott The Hoople album, it's not bad at all, and it's full of enjoyable moments. I mean, this is not commercial synth pop. These are simple guitar-driven 70's pop/rock tunes, some of them are really inspired and some others aren't. I will give a brief description of each one: Word From The Wise reminds me slightly of The Who and includes simple but good melodies and vocal harmonies. Thank You is a simple pop ballad with slide guitar in the vein of George Harrison, but nothing special really. Giant For A Day is an original rocker with fast rythm and harmonized guitars. The instrumental Spookie Boogie has some old-styled parts which wouldn't have been out of place in Interview. Take Me is just an average AOR ballad. Little Brown Bag is another rocker with good hard rock guitar riffs. Friends is a beautiful acoustic guitar-driven song, something that could have been written by Paul McCartney. No Stranger is another average pop song. It's Only Goodbye iis better with decent melodies and guitars. The piano/guitar-driven Rock Climber is really catchy and one of my favorites. So about half of the songs are really good songs, some are decent ones and a pair of them are weak. Anyway, it's evident that this are not the same GG that released eight of the most impressive art rock albums ever, so don't buy it unless you don't mind to listen to something much more simple. Definitely non-essential but not bad reallly.
