3 stars Glenn Thomson claims to be an Australian film composer, session musician, producer as well as a Prog Rock enthusiast.Over the years he deeped into the Electronic/Symphonic Music of Tangerine Dream, Vangelis and Rick Wakeman, developing his interest even in Jazz and Avant-Garde Music fields. In 2012 Thomson recorded his first solo album ''Spidercraft U.F.O.'' for Musea's branch label Musea Parallele, handling all vocals, instruments and programming.

Actually here we have to deal with a new PETER GABRIEL wannabee, as Thomson's general musical approach recalls ex-GENESIS frontman's early solo albums, both in the vocal and musical style.Basically ''Spidercraft U.F.O.'' is an Electronic/Art Pop album, where the Australian keyboardist focuses on tight songwriting with odd yet sensitive singing lines and lots of keyboards and electronic sounds in the background. There are here tracks which definitely flirt with the Neo Prog movement, based on sharper synthesizers, grandiose symphonic vibes, more pronounced presence of electric textures and more adventurous instrumental parts, but overall this work is pretty accesible with only a few risky moves. On the other hand Thomson appears to be an expierenced composer, as his rather poppy attitude is characterized by tight songwriting, memorable tunes and impressive combination of natural instruments and sound effects. The tracks reveal a positive atmosphere as proposed by the spacey, electronic themes, the modern groovy beats and Thomson's unique voice, as a result this is an easy-flowing experience of emotional, dreamy and cinematic soundscapes with a strong lyrical content.

Fans of traditional Prog should stay away.Anyone with open ears, followers of PETER GABRIEL and lovers of cinematic, spacey Art Music with a light accesible color should listen to this album instantly.Well-crafted and interesting material.Recommended.
