3 stars 3.5/5 Stars. Just because it has not enough prog elements to rate it as a prog record.

I think Ashes Against the Grain is a great album. But, i really can't see the connection with prog though. I really liked the atmosphere of the album (voice of John Haughm is convincing and fits perfectly with the style of the album), it's remind me Bergtatt by Ulver. The guitar parts are really good, creating a great special texture of doom metal. I can't say much about the drums because its typical drumming for an album like this. I have the feeling that John Haughm can do much more. The structures of the songs are simple enough just to bring the emotions they want. I really had much thought about the rating for this album. My favourite song was 'Falling Snow' that is a very good melodic metal song. I want to rate it as a very good doom album, but this issite is about prog. So i will give it 3,5 stars. Recommended for lovers of slow atmospheric metal.
