4 stars This, I think, is Santana's best album. The songs are a little more complex and structured, and they had better sound. The band also added another guitarist, Neal Schon, which thickened the sound and allowed for some neat dual guitar riff-offs. Another percussionist was added as well, to beef up an already beefy rhythm section. These two fit in very well, but it was not to last much longer. Starting with the next album, Caravanserai, the group will head in a much more improvisational and jazzy direction, farther and farther away from their signature latin-rock sound. 4 stars.
