4 stars The last VdGG album for a very long time and i have to say they pretty much ended on a high note, this is VdGG trying to sound like punk with songs like Cat's Eye / Yellow Fever wich rocks very hard (No whonder they became accepted by the punk movement) there are some almost pop songs like the opener Lizard play and The Sphinx in the Face but as ususlay with hammill twists, my favorite songs are the very catchy The habit of the broken heart the beautiful The siren song and last frame and the sweet litle ballad the wave is allso very nice. Most of the songs are acustic with lots of nice violin playing from Smith. Hammill as usualy write great and unusualy fun lyrics, the whole album it realy sounds like he and the rest of the band are having realy fun, especialy on wierd songs like The Sphinx in the Face. The bonus track on the 2005 ediotion are realy great and extremly hard rocking, Door have a nice heavy riff, Ship of fools is an early instrumentla version of the wave and The wave demo is a totoaly diffrent version from the song that ended up on the album this one rocks yust like Door very hard and nice, any punk band whuld have been proud with thos 2 songs on thiere album. Well VdGG is one of my absolute favorite prog bands so im afraid i overrate em a bit but i simply cant give this anything els then 4 star all songs are good and some very good it sound nothing like the other VdGG album but then again VdGG always tryed to do diffrent things and not reapet themselfs. A great way to end a impresiv run of exelent albums. Then we hade to wait some 28 years for thiere mighty comeback "Present".
