5 stars After Human, which was a seamless totality of brutality and progressive material, Death pushed out perhaps their most progressive album yet, and maybe ever. We still have fretless Steve DiGiorgio on the four-string, and the guy basically makes his own solos on the background, instead of just following the guitar lines which of course are deadly as hell. The record is also one of the two, that include Gene Hoglan behind the drum kit. As Digiorgio, also Hoglan kicks some amazing shit with his fills and stuff.

On the second guitar, this time we have Andy LaRocque from King Diamond. Guy tears some fantastic trademarks solos, though his role on the album is not so major one. Gene starts the album opener, Overactive Imagination and the we go. In Human Form is very cathy one with crooked vocal lines. Jealousy has some superb bassing by Steve and Trapped In Corner has perhaps the best solos on the album, committed by both Chuck and Andy. Nothing Is Everything, Mentally Blind and the title song follow with killer-riffs and leads, and some really proggy material at times. Destiny stars with acoustic and then blasts into dark clearence which shows very clearly something about Evil Chuck's philosophy. The lyrics overall are as used to be, very deep and full of thought.

Out Of Touch comes next and after nine killers, we still have one of Death's most well-known songs, the Philosopher. As the rest, the song is pure deadly metal and and the highlight is the closing of the song, where Chuck and Steve(!) switch turns on soloing. The album ends with the bouncing groove of DiGiorgio and every metalhead should be very, very happy. Proggers should also be. If they aren't then the compact disc should spin again, and again and again, you'l find the beauty in it someday.
