5 stars What can I say about this one? Pawn hearts is part of my Top 10 albums ever. It brings us the idea of an album with a side long suite and two shorter songs of "only" ten minutes long (a year before "Yes" did it). "A plague of lighthouse keepers" is IMO the predecesor of "Close to the Edge" and even of "Supper's Ready". "Lemmings" offers the characteristic Hammill style: to write lyrics and them sing a melody that corresponds to their meanig. Jackson's sax sounds great and Hammill's voice is marvellous in his convey a feeling rol. "Man Erg" in my favourite VDGG song. I love the way music and singing adapts to lyrics. The contrasting description of the killer and the angel who live inside all of us is great. The second part, depicting que confrontation betwen both of them is even better. The resulting peace in marvelous, sax solo is great. And then Hammill brings us back to the initial melody, just to end the song. Absolutely love this one. "Plague" presents a wonderfull melody sequence taking us to a travel through many diferent emotional states that reach its climax with a 9/8 melody ("The Clot Thickens") preannounsing Genesis' "Apocalipse in 9/8". After all that, it brings us back to thje initial peace in an absolute Hammill style.
