5 stars This is the most underrated DT album ... and ironically i think its the best they ever made, if you are drawn to the technical side of DT stay away from this, if you like your prog free from any pop influences stay the hell away, if you mainly like metal ... run away from this album like you would from the devil himself.

Falling into Infinity can be described as a very down to earth, acessible, athmospheric pop/prog/rock album, it does indeed has some metal bits here and there but otherwise its a very relaxed album, with many strong poppy chorus and many athmosferic and instrumental parts, the songwriting is sublime and phenomenonly good, all members of the bands have really toned down their surges of technical wankery and just concentrated in playing only what the songs need and what sounds good ... petrucci is at his best here, very simple yet as musical and as expressive as he ever was or will be, portnoy really relaxed and just flowing with the songs, myung adding that so mutch appreciated groove that was always missed in the band, derek debuted on this and really added a cool eerie feeling to some parts, labrie has ditched most of his high screaming parts and anoying vibrato.

I understand why some people hate this but if you can go past that hole "im sutch an underground dude that doesnt listen to pop and despises everything that has a hint of commercial sound to it" this is a very enjoyable album, the extreme technical DT bits are gone and instead we get treated with some of the most acomplished songs the band has ever made, if you already know any of the band's other albums try to listen to this as an album by a different band, not DT, you will realise just how good this one really is.
