ASIA

In my view Asia is a pop album, not a prog one. So I will rate it based as such. I am disappointed by the number of poor reviews, my guess is that too many people expected prog (what with all the big names, who'd expect different?) and they didn't get what they wanted. What they got instead was a large slice of quality rock.

This is one very well produced album. If there's anything bad to be said about Asia (the album) its that it is better listened to as a set of songs than as an album. Pick one out and give it a turn, it will rock your world, but try to listen to the album as a whole, and you actually get less than the sum of the parts. Which is a shame, as it is a wonderful rock album. I haven't listened to the rest of Asia's output so I don't know if it truly is their best, but this is among the best 80's pop has to offer. If you're a fan of the band Journey, this should be your next step.
