Kingsnake
4 stars Extremely talented and skilled musicians/composers.

The Dutch Uncles sound fresh and hip, although they play progressive rock. They say they are influenced by King Crimson, Kate Bush and Talking Heads, but you can definately hear influences by Roxy Music, Tears for Fears, Talk Talk, David Bowie and Gentle Giant.

The songs have poprock structures, and have short durations. There are no extensive guitarsoloss or keyboardsolos, but every song is skillfully crafted and played, with dozens of rhythm chanes, atypical rhythms, a variety of instruments. The songs build, have dynamics, tension and it never gets boring. The fact that the songs are short is their strongest feature. The emphasis is on rhythmguitar, leadguitarhooks and drums/bass.

The vocals sound reminiscent to Kate Bush and Brian Ferry, and I can imagine not may will like it, although the singer is very capable and has an excellent technique.

I can highly recommend this album to people who love 80's King Crimson, Roxy Music, Tears for Fears and Talking Heads.
