CORTICAL TECTONICS

An absolutely incredible tapestry of instrumental technical metal. From the searing opener 'Berserker Hypothesis', to the atmospheric, ethereal wonder of 'Interface', to the band's 17-minute magnum opus that is 'Reticular Consciousness', this album is a work of art. It has the ability to hit you with an insane measure of ripping solos and unbelievably complex riffs (complemented by some of the most acrobatic and imaginative drumming you will ever hear) and follow it up with a beautiful, soaring harmony, finished off by a comparatively sleepy and beautiful ambient passage. It is amazing to think that these guys are only in their mid-20's and likely have their best work ahead of them when they are capable of producing a tour de force of this magnitude. Any fan of metal or prog in any capacity owes it to themselves to check this album out immediately.
