4 stars This is an intense display of progressive rock with some excellent instrumental sections throughout. Even the name sounds so bizarre and intrigueing. So anyways:

Jerusalem, nice organ on this one and melody is also pretty. Very much like church music of course but with ELP's twist on it. Slighty boring in comparison to some of the later tracks but a nice track none the less.

Toccata, find this harder to listen to and a bit self-indulgent at times but then again thats what makes ELP so lovable some times. Really for me this just felt like it had potential and could have become a well constructed song but fell short and feels too spontaneous and random.

Still...You Turn Me On, a suprising track from this band but a nice acoustic and electronic mixture which creates a very calming atmosphere. Constructed more like a pop song and we get to hear more of Greg's vocals. I liked this short interlude especially after such an intense piece like Toccata.

Benny the Bouncer, certainly one of the weaker tracks and a little too silly to really be enjoyable to listen to. Comical, but not really a great song. There is however some nice honky tonk piano from Emerson, which is probably one of it's only redeeming qualities.

Finally, the conclusion worth waiting for.

Karn Evil 9- First Impression-Part 1, nice track with some great synth about halfway through. Also great keyboards in general throughout, as well as drumming, vocals and bass.

Karn Evil 9-First Impression-Part 2, probably the most famous part of the Karn Evil 9 series. Great lyrics, vocals and keyboards. Some amazing keyboard solos and even a very short drum solo.

Karn Evil 9- Second Impression, Mostly jazzy throughout with some outstanding keyboards but not entirely exciting overall.

Karn Evil 9- Third Impression, dramatic intro that creates the mood. Also, some nice vocals and melodies throughout.

Overall, this album is actually a large varitey of sounds and styles, and while they are sometimes a little indulgent, generally they songs are quite enjoyable and interesting.
