5 stars My favourite metal album. Yeah, even better than Scenes Form a Memory, which I thought was unimaginable, but this one just kicks harder.

This isn't very progressive metal music, I'd rather call it melodic semi-power metal with occaisonal moments of 80's (hair)metal sound (yuck!), but don't let that fool you. Oh, no! The sound, or should I say the atmosphere, is very unique, refreshing, digestible, yet compelling and adequately progressive. Each song has strong structure, is masterfully crafted and breathes with power, sincerity and emotions; this album has a soul, everything flows flawlessly, you just have to feel great while and long after listening to it. I assure you, you don't hear music like this every day.

Of course, there are many charming and surprising moments, details, passages, brilliant solos - things that make music great. Needles to say, musicianship is excellent (nice razor guitar!) and vocals are really incredible, such a diversity and urge! - well done Keith!

Weak points? If I really must say, it would be song The edge of madness. It's a bit weaker than others... Oh well, I shouldn't have written this anyway...

Just to mention, this is a concept album, lyrics and storyline are strong - it's about reaching the edge of (in)sanity; couldn't tell more, never been there.

All in all, a beautiful, monumental, one-in-a-lifetime metal masterpiece.
