5 stars How not to give five stars to this Gentle Giant's anthology ? I usually don't rate greatest hits or compilation packages but I want to make an exception to this band.

The name of the band reminds us of the giant characters in Rabelais' stories. In Gentle Giant's music, we sometimes hear sounds from the music written in those Renaissance years, especially in the vocal harmonies. Their music is complex, often jazzy, including dissonances in the arrangements and the vocals. Their eclectism has influenced many acts from the seventies to the 21st century, like the french canadian groups Et cetera and Way Out in the mid-'70s, Spock's Beard, Advent and particularly Echolyn in the nineties, Finneus Gauge at the turn of the millennium.

After being in Simon Dupree & The Big Sound in the sixties, their first 8 albums are near masterpieces, or masterpiece in the case of Octopus. Gentle Giant are among the giants of progressive music and of the music of all time !
