5 stars When I first heard this album, my major thought was: "Damn! These guys can play!" Imagine the sound of Yes, Focus, Finch, Deep Purple and Return To Forever all rolled into one big ball of amazing music. The ensemble palying is often at breakneck speed and extremely tight. Pino Marrone's guitar playing is superb, and really gels well with the intense drumming of Gonzalo Farrugia (any relation to the great Aussie drummer, Darren Farrugia?). I'm not a big fan of Gustavo Montesano's vocals, though the music is usually so arresting that you just bypass his voice anyway. The first track, Todo Tiempo Posible, is a real mind bender, surging forward with intricate guitar and keyboard parts, rhythmically aggressive and melodically interesting. It's the type of track that has you wanting to replay it time and again. Anibal Kerpel has a wonderful sense of harmonic flair, his keyboard work a real highlight, and his solos full of verve and joyful spirit. His interplay with Marrone is astounding, the two of them playing clean and inventive lines in a much more concise and integrated way than, say, the early Finch albums. The final track, Abismo Terrenal, is a real tour de force of sparkling, high energy fusion. Sure, the sounds are dated, but the life and elan embedded in this music is hard to recreate nowadays. Compare this cd with some of the sterile and glassy yuppy fusion heard these days. I'm glad I bought this cd. Anyone who eschews sad-arse mellotron driven introspection, but likes inspired musicianship, uplifting compositions, and strident rhythms, will love this cd.
