4 stars 'Liventure #19' is the new official live album by VESPERO. It was recorded in Astrakhan in June 2008 including tracks supposed to be part of the forthcoming second studio CD. Additionally you can also discover a shorter version of 'Rito', the highlight track of their eponymous 2007 album. I was really surprised when I noticed that one of my favourite bands is offering a live album for free and on top of it with an excellent sound quality. So I began to listen with much couriosity.

Except violin player Valentin Rulev the band consists of the same line-up as on the 'Rito' recordings. Sever opens very ambient spacey as a guitar, synth and accordion joint venture until a hypnotic monotonic bass begins to serve a heavy component. And then the band drifts into Rito - performed very good but not provided with that kind of special magic as known from the studio version. The following songs which are completely new for me have a lot to offer and are really impressing. The interesting Lino shows a canterbury bass at the beginning and then an echo dominated guitar style points into another direction. Some slight Pink Floyd references are also to mention here.

Glass Rainbow is noteworthy because now the band really begins to wake up performing a complex and dynamic song also bringing up a jazzy orientation more and more. Tower continues in this way with grooving drum/percussion work and duelling synthesizer/guitar - an excellent powerful jam. On Salma Simiere Natalya Tjurina and Arkadii Fedotov are going to show a duet in native russian and Float finally is convincing with a nice groove, dynamic and female vocals on the top.

All in all this songs are played more in the vein of their first studio album with mainly psychedelic portions and are differing to the ethnic meditative flavoured 'Foam' a little bit. And they succeed in surprising the listener again and again - this time with a more jazzy/funky orientation during the second part of the recordings - always headed by Alexander Kuzovlev's psychedelic guitar work. VESPERO's music is something special and convincing by all means - to check this out just download the songs from the RAIG site ...
