WHO'S THE BOSS IN THE FACTORY?

I'm not a great reviewer of albums, mostly I just consume them. But, incidentally, an album passes where I feel I have to speak up and say how good it is, and this is one of those! Jonas Reingold has got it together now.No more excessive excursions into jazz-rock or shredding like on the albums before, but a symphonic album par excellence. Ofcourse there's the obvious short excursion into jazz rock, but this time it's palpable since the album is melodic/symphonic driven, and then these excursions make for a nice break.. I don't want to talk too much about the musical skills of the personnel on this album, since they are all masters of their instruments, and the vocals are very good. This album personifies what I feel is great prog: Technical excellence, combined with a great feeling for melody and mood, and compositional/structural quality. The first track, Send a Message From the Heart, does what the title promises. it sends a message from the heart.deeply felt positive emotion. The track is 20 minutes, which doesn't let you off the hook for one minute. It is a great display of prog music the way I fancy it, and one of the best tracks I ever heard..(pardon me for liking some Yes even more.) The second track, Let in Hollywood, is for me the least of this album, but still very nice! I love the lyrics here" I can't hear a single, this song's in 7/8, instead has passed it's sell-by date. An up-tempo rocker in 7/8 (ofcourse).. The rest of the album can be split in two sections.The title song + One Blocks from the Edge, and Eternally pt I&II. The first of these blocks, Boss in the Factory and One Block from the Edge, are great symphonic prog rock, with solid structure, and good melodies. Great piano solo between 7:30 and 8:40 in Boss of the Factory! The second block, Eternally pt I&II is of a different kind: Here emotions rule. The first track, Eternally pt I. is a piano piece which references Chopin, very emotional, and flows seamlessly into Pt. II which is a dark flavored piece, with fretless bass and strong "French" feeling (the accordion plays an important part in that). It reminds me a lot of some great Anathema tunes.

This is the best album of 2008.A Masterpiece of Prog..so 5 stars, no less..
