3 stars A kick up the their fans backsides ??

Although Hold Your Fire was the first Rush album I ever listened to...... and got me hooked on them, I never really liked Signals and their synth period. I got the A Show Of Hands live album, liked it and hoped for a return to more guitars and a bit heavier sound. Presto was the answer to my prayers.

In hindsight and twenty years later, Presto does not seems like the refreshener I once thought it was. It is not Alex in full flight. It still has a lot of synth. The songs are still a bit too pop for my liking. I may have developed as a person during these last twenty years. I may have become a man. Presto does not kick ass as it once did. Instead, it now have a lot of good melodies. Most of them are well known to me now. OK, I have to confess that Presto is not the album I have been listening a lot to during the last five years. I only dusted it off again after receiving a promo copy of the new Rush sampler.

Presto now has a lot of good songs and some weaker stuff. Too much of the stuff seems like throwaway stuff from previous projects. Other stuff are again pretty good. Rush seems to dislike this album and it is a bit of an oddity. Or perhaps not. In any case; Presto has a lot of interesting details and good songs. Show Don't Tell is a good opener. Superconductor is my favourite track from this album. The title track is very good too. Scars and Hand Over Fist is just horrible.

My conclusion is that Presto is a good Rush album. It is not great though. But I still enjoy it and will listen more to it during the coming years.

3.5 stars.
