3 stars This is a good compilation from Renaissance's later days with Sire Records. It includes music from Novella, A Song from All Seasons, Azure d' Ore, and Live at Carnegie Hall. If you're a Renaissance fan, you're better off buying the albums, as Novella, A Song from All Seasons, and Live at Carnegie Hall are all essential classics. Azure d' Ore, however, while one of their better albums from their later period, is not essential, so you may want to pick this up if you want to hear two songs from it (Jekyll and Hyde, and The Winter Tree). This is the albums where they started using synths instead of the orchestra, and there is a considerable drop in quality because of it. In fact, they sound like a better version of ABBA on those two songs. Also, you may want to pick up this album with volume I if you haven't heard Renaissance yet and just want to see if you like it or not. It starts of with classics from Novella and A Song for All Seasons, then you'll hear the two songs from Azured'Ore, and it ends with the excellent extended version of Ashes are Burning from Live at Carnegie Hall. But, again, if you're already like Renaissance, do yourself a favor and just get the albums.
