3 stars Was Jerusalem builded here, among these dark satanic mills?

Jerusalem is the opening track from the masterpiece Brain Salad Surgery, Emerson Lake & Palmer's greatest studio album. The song is an adaptation of a hymn, originally written by William Blake and Hubert Parry. While it works perfectly as an album opener, it was perhaps not an obvious choice to be released as a single.

The b-side holds When The Apple Blossoms Bloom In The Windmills Of Your Mind I'll Be Your Valentine, a rare instance of a non-album b-side. At the time, this track was only available on this single. Since then the track has been included first on the Works Vol. 2 album, and then later on added as a bonus track to several of the CD re-issues of Brain Salad Surgery. It is a very nice instrumental track that, while not of the same exceptional quality as the tracks that made it onto the original album, does have the same dark atmosphere as the Brain Salad Surgery material.

A small taste of the magnificent salad
