3 stars Manifesto is the sixth full-length studio album from pop/ rock act Roxy Music. Their last album Siren was released in 1975 so the band had not recorded anything in four years. Back then when bands released at least one album a year that must have seemed like an eternity to the fans. Manifesto hosted two hit singles in Dance Away and Angel Eyes but the first single from the album was actually Trash but that one failed to chart.

The music is sophisticated pop/ rock on most of the album and some great examples is the opening title track and my favorite here Stronger Through the Years. Two songs that a band like Japan has definitely listened to. There are a couple of more lighthearted silly songs too though in Cry, Cry, Cry and Dance Away. I canīt say that the latter ones are favorites of mine.

The musicianship is excellent. Bryan Ferryīs voice is always an aquired taste, but he is rather restrained on this album compared to the early albums. Something I noticed while listening to the album was the dominant bass. And what a bass that is. Gary Tibbs bass playing is of high class IMO. Itīs of some notice that the only surviving member from the last album Siren is Bryan Ferry.

The production is good and professional sounding.

Manifesto is an overall good album from Roxy Music and deserves a 3 star rating for that. There are a few weak moments on the album but most songs are good. Donīt expect anything progressive on the album though. This is just clever pop/ rock IMO.
