4 stars This is actually better than their previous full-length album

In the evening of March 7th of 2008, wile waiting anxiously for the beginning of the Dream Theater concert i received this promo for free from one of the many people in charge of distributing it and, to be frank, I almost threw it away. The band Khallice would be the opening act for Dream Theater and, in the past months i listened to their full-length album and i was far from being impressed, so i only kept this for pure curiosity, due to my need to collect music and because Khallice actually made a good opening presentation.

Months after the concert I finally became interested by this very promo and decided to give it a try before forgetting it forever (because, at the time, i thought this would be as bad as their album), but, to my amazement, the promo was actually quite good. Maybe the reason for it is that it is half as long as their album, but that is not really important. The thing is that this promo has very good songs.

Obviously inspired by Dream Theater, Angra, Symphony X, Mindflow, Evergrey and power metal, the band presents a quite different kind of music from the one they presented in their album. The singer now apparently have his own style of singing, what is very positive. The music don't sound as derivative, what is even more positive.

This promo really shows that this band can still become a great progressive metal band, but that only time (and another full-length album) will tell.

Grade and Final Thoughts

This is nice enough promo. For being such a short release, it doesn't have many weak points and the ones it does have (like when the vocalist screams instead of singing in some parts) can be quite easily forgotten. 4 stars seems like a fair grade for me, so 4 stars it will be.
