2 stars The second helping of Magnesis is called Le Miroir aux Défauts. My French is useless so I have no clue what that means.

This pretty theatrical French band is again exploring the proud past of France. The music is somewhere between IQ, GENESIS, HARMONIUM and ANGE. It is more an album of songs than a concept album this time. It is also vocals orientated. .......And herein lays the problem of this album. The vocals reminds me about some of the worst excesses of the English/ Scottish synth-pop scene of the 1980s. Brash, too loud and too atonal. The vocals is a mix of singing and shouting, if you get my drift. The music on this album is keyboards and guitar driven and it is good music. But the vocals is far too much in the front of the mix. Sorry, but this does not sound any good (and it now dawns on my why I am the first to review this album in PA).

The music itself is pretty good. There are even some heavy metal riffs here. The main music is a blend of medieval music, film music, folk rock, neo-prog and symphonic rock. That's what I get when I block out the vocals. The music is pretty good and varied. But the vocals pretty much push the music in the background and becomes annoying. I preferred their debut album.
