4 stars I used to ask myself, why Lacrimosa could be classified as a "progressive" act?. Now, after many times I've heard some of their records (specially this one) I must recognize you were right, at least here on Progarchives.com. Lichtgestalt doesn't leave the classic formula of the band but is certainly a step further inside their discography. They made a careful work concerning to arrangements, performance and production.

Songs that capture the attention from anyone who can appreciate them thanks to the diversity on details, they also keep the gothic essence of all their career and borrowed ideas to improve and to be able of giving some memorable moments to charming melodies in spite of a grey ambient, almost constant, sad and even sombre in some moments. Musically is supported by electric and acoustic sources but dominated by a sense of fineness and elegance helped as much by winds' section as strings' section that gives an intimacy sound according to each song.

Making a summary, there will be some heavy moments (not too much) and others more relaxed but mainly atmospheric what contributes to the purpose of the album. So, if you are trying to look for a heavy record (even extreme) inside the parameters of the progressive sound of nowadays, maybe this one isn't the best choice but if you are hoping to find something more contemplative on "Lichtgestalt", sure it's going to be the chosen one to be heard for a while. Also as a comment and for those who doesn't know, Lacrimosa works songs in German (mostly) and some others in English to include them on every album.

Could I solve my doubts about how progressive is their music?, maybe not, even on the way my intention to discover it disappeared suddenly but I'm sure about one thing, records like this are made for enjoying peaceful and quietly, music based on feelings and emotions... for receptive minds and hopeless hearts.
