5 stars In my opinion( and I am forced to assume it's certainly nobody else's) this is one of the best albums ever recorded( top five!). Listening to it I've experienced the despair of a condemned convict, the mind of the insane, the panic of a rape runaway and the eternal duality between the rapist/murder's desire and personal anguish. All those conflicts, feelings and suggestions are so accurately portrayed on this album that it gives me chills. And it's all so nicely portrayed, folks, exclusively by sound( perfect melodies, perfect vocals) and poetry( very intense and powerful, hence beautiful) I feel scared and unproctected and yet I feel sympathy for the rapist as I see some of his sick madness in me... I've never read, seen or listened to another piece of art that sucessfuly evoked that kind of image. First Utterance is an epic to all of us that have loved too much, so much that began to ask in the darkness of a brain what to do in order to have this love consumated/corresponded. A love so pure that is ugly, primitive, wild. A love we fear to feel, that we are damned to feel.

Oh, by the way, it's a good folk album as well.
