4 stars Omens is another fantastic release from Elder, and it may be the most progressive offering to date. It still has that psychedelic appeal, with a dose of heavy prog mixed in. Omens has some pop to it, and it is evident how talented these guys are. These 5 tracks are still distinctively Elder, with a sound that may be evolving as the band explores new territories with more complex compositions. While Omens is not as hard hitting as the previous release Reflections Of A Floating World, it does feature more progressions with softer and heavier moments mixed in to keep it interesting. Although, it is a heavier release than The Gold & Silver Sessions offered last year. I continue to find Elder as a band that I can just work to, exercise to, and just chill to. Those long passages are always perfect on so many levels, and Omens does not disappoint by drawing you in. This is a highly recommended release to fans of a little jam in their progressive metal and heavy prog.
