UNDER A MEDITERRANEAN SKY

As you probably know, there are not only one, but at least two Steves: the prog rocker supported by his full-blown band, and the classical leaned musician who experiments with the fusion of orchestral ensambles and acoustic (nylon & steel stringed) guitars. The last Steve delivered this album, in which his sonic palette is broadened as to include also antique & ethnic instruments from the mediterranean orb, and instrumental contributions by the extraordinary guest players, including his brother John.

Needless to say that this is music tinged by the history and cultural variety of the Mediterranean shores. However, there's no need to fear that the ethnic element surpasses the progressive conception of the themes. That delicate balance is not to be missed on this lovely record: listen, for example, The Dervish and the Djin, which commences with a solo performance by the most exotic instrument, only to give way for the entry of the great orchestral arrangement, reaching a fantastic peak with the marvellous sax solo on top of all that.

Not to be missed, if you love this sort of instrumental affair.
