Last to time (2009.12) John Cale studio album starts as rock'n'roll album. Rock'n'roll in a sense of post Velvets sound: acoustic guitars, raw and dirty music of post-punk era. But very soon music changes to more eclectic mixture: heavily based on acoustic guitar rhythms, album is full of vintage synth sounds and effects.

Some dark romantics is mixed with decadence psychedelic loops. All album is melodic, rock - fuelled, acoustic but synth scented, with some guitar solos, brewed in vintage rock-n-roll spirit. You can feel VU roots as well as characteristic Cale post-punk decadence atmosphere (read - Lou Reed or middle period David Bowie).

And if as often Cale aesthetic ( or better - anti aesthetic) is placed far from progressive music, as often again common techniques and atmosphere is some art-rock related.

This album, easy accessible one, isn't one of Cale experimental/minimalistic work he is known by in progressive circles. Only partially related with prog music, this album is still quite good listening for many fans.
