3 stars Splendid brings back the proven tandem of Larry Coryelle and Philip Catherine. Acoustic guitars are highly complementary, no competing or dominance of one. Playing is tight, lively. As a nice sonic difference, acoustic guitar effects (or is it a special guitar type?), there is a relaxing deep sounding melody guitar used on tracks like "Snowshadows".

A rework of the recent Coryell/Mouzon album "Transvested Express" for two classical guitars is splendid indeed and works out even without Mouzon drums. Piano joins on marching and a bit mischievious "Deus Xango" whereas "My serenade" has tonality similar to Django Reinhardt's but I couldn't find a direct link to the Reinhardt's composition of the same name.

"A quiet day in spring" is a pleasant breezy track.
