4 stars Darwin! is a deep, challenging album, focusing mostly on keybaords- organ, various synths, and piano, and the excellent, passionate vocals, singing Italian lyrics, backed up by drums and whatever instruments are needed. The closest comparison is ELP, though Banco puts much more emotion into their songs than ELP does, and they don't waste as much time with self-indulgent instrumentals. Darwin! is surprisingly catchy, even to one who does not speak the language- it's well-made, engaging music that doesn't let go, and doesn't get boring. The best song here is Cento Mani E Cento Occhi (a hundred hands and a hundred eyes), which is an energetic, powerful rocker with, I think, excellent lyrics (I translated them via intenet), closely followed by la Conquista Della Posizione Erreta (the conquest of the upright position). Very nice, recommended to fans of RPI, keyboard-heavy prog, and ELP fans.
