4 stars Review #151

As I said in my review about "One size fits all", in 1975 Frank ZAPPA finally got a stable line-up of musicians; unfortunately, this didn't last long. "Zoot allures" was the first ZAPPA album in which George DUKE didn't play since 1969 and further from Ruth UNDERWOOD and Napoleon MURPHY BROCK ( and some very scarce collaborations by CAPTAIN BEEFHEART, Ian UNDERWOOD, and Roy ESTRADA) the whole squad was filled with session musicians (including Terry BOZZIO).

The album includes some classic ZAPPA songs as "Ms. Pinky", "Disco boy", "Zoot allures" and of course the wonderful "Torture never stops", going from insane guitar solos (besides "Zoot allures" it also includes the even more interesting "Black napkins"), to some funny and calm songs. ZAPPA was still demonstrating that he was a remarkable guitar player and a very funny songwriter.

SONG RATING: Wind up workin' in a gas station, 4 Black napkins, 5 The torture never stops, 5 Ms. Pinky, 4 Find her finger, 3 Wonderful wino, 4 Zoot allures, 4 Disco boy, 4

AVERAGE: 4.11

PERCENTAGE: 82.22

ALBUM RATING: 4 stars
