4 stars Alive and well in the acoustic symphonic prog land.

Well, Flairck is not listed as a symphonic prog band. But if this were their only album, I think that would had been a good genre for them. In any case, this is a live album........ and a cracking good live album too !

I think this album can be described as Flairck's Made In Japan. I get the same vibes from this album too as I got from Deep Purple's live album. The same mad musicianship, the same kind of neck-breaking delivery, the same virtuous musicianship.......... well, you get my drift. Flairck is backed up by a symphony orchestra on this live album too and they add some pretty heavy metal esque type of heaviness. Bang your head and raise your fists; this is Flairck gone mad......... acoustic. If you think this review is now going straight west; I will just tell you that I am trying to keep up with Flairck here !

Encore only contains three songs. Circus, Aoife (from their fantastic debut album) and Arabesk. But this live album is forty-two minutes long. Circus from the album of the same name is first out and stretches onto twenty-six minutes. It contains some incredible flute and violins. It is both fast, virtuous, ethereal and pastorial throughout this almost too short piece of music. I have yet to hear the Circus album, but I will get onto it pretty pronto. This is a fantastic song.

Aoife is a fantastic song too and one of their best ever songs. Pastorial, ethereal and medieval in it's melody line. The delivery here is incredible too. Arabesk is the closing song here and include some Arab folk music. It also include male vocals in addition to the trademark virtuous Flairck musicianship.

The end result is a heavy, virtuous album with all the hallmarks of a truly great musical experience. This is the first Flairck live album I have really been listening too. If the rest is as good as this one, I will give up my last ounces of resistance to this band and put a white flag out of my kitchen window. I am bowled over.........
