4 stars Encouraged by the reviews on progarchiv website, I decided to take the guess and blindly buy the cd Barbares of Nemo. Over the years, I was surprised that I actually never was able to find something valuable coming form French ground, maybe except for Gong, which has French roots. Nemo turns out to be a band who is able to create very good music. They even managed to make their lyrics and vocals (in French!) being part of the music. I always had the impression that it is extremely difficult to use roman languages in such a way that it is not over dominanting music. Being Dutch myself, by the way, Dutch is also completely unsuitable for music. Of couse, there are quite a lot of italian bands (roman language!), who made very good music, but also they "suffer" from the dominance of their language in music. In French, it seems to be even more difficlult. Nemo succeeds on Barberes to make the vocals and language to be part of the music. In fact very good eclectic music. I am enjoying this cd a lot. Based on this good cd, I decided to order some of the older works of the band. Strangely enough, it is not that easy in the Netherlands to buy these cd's. The band is completely unknown here and the commercial environment is not in place to get attention in the Nehterlands. The older albums didn't bring what I expected. Barbares a very good piece of music, but Nemo is using the same kind of sounds over and over again. If Barares woudn't have been the first cd I heard from Nemo, I probably wouldn't have been that enthousiastic about this cd. However, Barbares is absolutely worth while being part of a progressive music collection.
