Something is brewing here. I Want To Hold Your Hand is a good pointer towards the likes of Sgt Peppers and the really good stuff from the best ever pop band.

The warning signs are obvious on this single. This band is not only content by writing girl and teenybopper pleasing songs. They are pushing the envelope here. On the surface, I Want To Hold Your Hand is another naive teenybopper song. But listen to the beat, to the harmonies and to the guitars. They are really pushing the boat out here. This is a superb song from the masters of pop music.

The B side This Boy is a brutal return to mother earth again. A crooning song which reminds me about the horrible acts which ran the pop music scene before The Beatles sent them packing. This Boy is totally bereft of any redeeming qualities and is perhaps the worst song The Beatles has ever recorded. It is not even worth one star. So I end up with 2 stars.
