4 stars Revered, slightly controversial, beautiful and an icon in the history of pop music.

But ultimately; a very beautiful song which deserve it's status as one of the best ever songs from The Beatles.

This song is supposedly written by Lennon/McCartney. But Paul McCartney has recently claimed that John Lennon was not that much involved in this song. I believe him. This song is as far removed from the rebellion John Lennon as you can get. On the other hand, it is pretty much down the alley of the anti-rebellion Paul McCartney.

Yesterday is overly sugar sweet song. It is also a melancholic song. It is also naive. But it hits the bullseye like few songs has ever done since then. It tells about regrets and loss. Feelings which hits most people at home and gives this song a high recognition factor. This song is simply the soundtrack for most of us. Hence it's well deserved status.

The B side I Should Have Known Better starts with a good harmonica and continues as a good song. It is not in the same league as Yesterday though, although it is a pleasing song. But Yesterday deserve four stars and that is what it gets.
