4 stars In September 2010, Dream Theater found themselves in a difficult position to replace drummer legend Mike Portnoy. Fortunately Mike Mangini took over and listening to the result in this "A Dramatic Turn of Events", the election was a success!

And I don't know if it was precisely because of the challenge that this change entailed or simply because of the effort invested in the songs, this album turned out to be his best work since "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence", taking up the structure of songs of more than 10 minutes mixed with some shorter ones typical of albums like "Images and Words" and "Octavarium", which is also somewhat reminiscent of the sound of this "A Dramatic turn of Events".

It is true that the compositional exhaustion is still present, as well as LaBrie's tired voice, but given the brilliance of some passages on the album, this time they are even forgivable defects.

Well done guys!

Best Tracks: Lost Not Forgotten (good chorus, powerful riffs and an absolutely overwhelming instrumental bridge), Bridges in the Sky (another authentic instrumental tour de force, which even dares with choral sections and ethnic influences), Outcry (I like the touches oriental in the melodies and the power of the instrumental base) and Breaking all Illusions (another long, dense theme that takes us back to the time of "Images and Words")

My Rating: ****
