Heart of the Matter
4 stars Think of this album as a double shot of well-aged classic seventies progressive rock, boasting all the main ingredients that are necessary to be immediately recognized as such:

Tremendously propulsive bass line going far beyond the call of duty all the way through, to the point of assuming the leading instrumental role at certain passages. Assertive vocals founded on the strong raw power of the lead, and enhanced with very solid harmonies. Muscular drumming, perfectly able to keep tempo without resort to any metrognomic aid (something so good, and so missed in these days!). Those charming vintage synths from the era, pouring tasty solos all over the place (you know, it's never too much).

And, of course, the marvellous electric guitar of the great Roye Albrighton, always keeping an ear for dissonance, and the other for melody, rarifying for moments, but always conducting the proceedings to the point of sheer brilliance.

A splendid vignette of the era, painted with long forgotten colours, full of detail and liveliness.

In the case you were not already fond of this, then trust me, you need to give it a good listen and a serious chance.
