3 stars George Duke is one of the most famous musician and keybord player from jazz funk and soul in last 40 years, He work with many jazz artist like Stanley Clark, Billy Cobham, etc and many many more from diffrent genres but also has a career as producer, specially in the '80's. Follow the rainbow was the second album release by the artist in 1979 and has a clear funk/soul with jazz elements direction. This album got diffrent reviews in that period, the R&B critics loved it , but the jazz ones didn't expect that Mr. Duke fall in a diffrent direction, more saver and more radio friendly. Follow the rainbo overall has a little to do with jazz, only some parts are towards this style like piece Festival, with a brazilian atmosphere, is like this was extracted by any Al Di Meola album, a totaly diffrent track the most jazzier and the most complex from here, as the rest who are more towards funk R&B. I must tell that this kind of music if is played with the heart and has a great atmosphere it sounds very good. The album is up tempo, nice beats, great choruses, and smooth arrangements. Ok some jazz lovers will say that this is a bad album, but to me is a very enjoyble release. Some parts from here like Sunrise are influenced by masters of funk Earth, Wind and Fire, who were at the top in that period. So overall a good album , I realy like it, 3 stars more like 3.5. Is not an album for jazz fusion lovers is more for those who can appreciate funk and R&B with a touch of jazz elements here and there.
