5 stars It's my first time writing review on Prog Archives. After a brief disbandment, the band regrouped. The style of Van Der Graaf Generator's music changed in a special way. No remarkable new instrument. But you can tell they've changed a lot. Somebody love the old music style of Van Der Graaf Generator. Because after regrouping. They music reduce the weird and twisted parts. But for me, I prefer the regrouped band. Because not only more pleasing to the ear, but also more coherent. And they were still dark and deep. Godbluff sounds more consistent than Pawn Hearts. The medley "A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers" embodies the characteristics and shortcomings of the band in the early stage. Such as parts that don't transition smoothly. I think whether Lemmings or Man-Erg is better than it. In Godbluff. No near 20 minutes songs. So there isn't this problem, and no sudden paragraph changes, either. Of course, there are many things that didn't change. Such as incomprehensible lyrics, gloomy atmosphere. Somebody described Godbluff as sounding like "looking for hope in despair". It's very appropriate. I appreciate the gloomy atmosphere. It makes them sound not like the most of symphonic prog band(such as yes, genesis). Some people think VDGG belongs to the second tier prog band. But for me. Pawn Hearts and Godbluff can keep VDGG a top prog band. And Godbluff is one of the best prog albums.

If I only had time,

But soon the dream is ended... ------The Sleepwalkers
