4 stars I am not a huge fan of ELP, enjoying only the first 4 albums. This one, BRAIN SALAD SURGERY, is their finest moment. Some of the work on here is sublime and wonderful. However, there is also the usual goofy tune ("Benny the Bouncer"), that ELP could just not do an album without. Why? I usually grow bored with some of the more classical work of ELP, but everything on here holds my interest most of the time, although the 2nd Impression of "Karn Evil 9" goes on a little long. Still, this is the only ELP work that I find to be consistently good over the entire album. TARKUS and TRILOGY come close but BRAIN SALAD SURGERY is ELP at their peak. And it's always downhill after the peak! 4 stars
