4 stars A perfect marriage between VDGG and Genesis.

This albums has got a lot of reviews so please allow me to be brief. For in debt analysis, go to the other reviews.

Discipline is one of the better symphonic prog bands from USA at the moment. This albums proves why. Matthew Parmenter & Co operates on the more somber, pastoral end of the prog rock spectrum. Matthew's vocals is at times pretty much down the Peter Hammel's alley. Which is a good thing in my books. The songs here is also symphonic and complex. The best song is Before The Storm which is more VDGG than Genesis. Genesis though is revisited at the opener Canto IV. The rest combines the best of two worlds at the same time as the trademark Discipline is stamped all over the songs. They have their identity and it is a strong identity.

The quality is great throughout and Unfolded Like Staircase is one of the greatest post 1980 US prog albums. I don't think many would disagree with that.
