After listening to Katharsi, the latest album from Deep Limbic System, it's impossible not to look back and try to understand where this Mexican band comes from. In that sense, The Embryo (Extended Version) feels like a window into the project's origin — like a seed that already carried many of the qualities that would later mature in their music.

The first thing you notice is a more stripped-down, straightforward production. But that doesn't mean it lacks quality — quite the opposite. There's a raw honesty here that amplifies the solemn and atmospheric character of the compositions. The moods are darker, the tempos more restrained, and the keyboards play a fundamental role — not just as background elements, but as the foundation for many of the passages. That ethereal, electronic base helps build dense, introspective spaces where emotion flows without needing to be loud about it.

Once again, the addition of saxophone is spot-on. It shows up exactly when it needs to — grabbing your attention and leaving a strong impression. It gives the EP an extra layer of texture, adding drama and a cinematic vibe that enhances its overall melancholic tone.

Visually, the EP's original cover art is another win. Beautiful, mysterious, and totally in sync with the music. That kind of aesthetic coherence has become a signature for the band, and you can already sense it clearly here.

Even though this extended edition adds two more tracks than the original release, the EP flies by. Everything flows so naturally, like a single piece split into movements. Nothing feels out of place, and nothing breaks the momentum. And while every track has its weight, a few stand out: A Ceiling of Stars, Farewell, Orison, and Dynania form a solid backbone that carries much of the EP's emotional weight.

What's really surprising is that a band with such a defined identity and strong songwriting still flies under the radar. The Embryo isn't just a great debut — it's a promise fulfilled from day one.
