4 stars JUMP are primarily a rock band, but with folk and prog underpinnings, as they have been for 30+ years, under the guidance of writer and alpha vocalist JOHN DEXTER JONES. Jones sings as powerfully as anyone (think a more modulated PHIL or MARTIN GRIFFITHS), as he needs to if he hopes to match a searing lead twin guitar attack. The proportions of each style vary from disc to disc, and, to be frank, some of the earlier ones didn't do much for me, but they have been on point for more than a decade now. The lyrics here remain tilted to social commentary, but are especially dark this time around, with the breakdown of society to the fore, highly prescient given that it appears to have coincided with the nascent COVID-19 pandemic.

I'm especially enjoying the first 3 cuts, "The Cellar", and "The Parade", and, while the title track and "The Cold Fire" have some fine tempered moments, their 7+ minutes coalesce JUMP's strengths as a band who brushes the G-spot at the 4:42 duration give or take. Still, this is close enough to 4 stars to break that barrier soundly. ,
