4 stars I really like the Passport album Oceanliner, recorded and released in 1980. It is my favorite "post -Iguacu" record of theirs, referring to Passport's 1977 record "Iguacu" which was the last to be done with the most important and influential lineup of the band that released most of their greatest albums in the early to mid-1970s; after Iguacu, which was kind of a transitional record, personnel and sound made a definite change to a somewhat lighter feel as evidenced by 1978's Ataraxia (or Sky Blue), and others. Of all those subsequent records, Oceanliner appeals to me the most, as it has an inimitable atmosphere to it that I find catchy, but not trite. Each track has it's own uniqueness, but all fit together so nicely.

Oceanliner is better than the two previous to it, and those that came after because, though this is not in the same league as albums like 1974's Looking Thru and 1975's Cross-Collateral, the album generates interest and appeal every time I listen to it, and it has stood the test of time as I have been appreciating it for several decades, now. All musicians on this album are quite good, and make their presence felt, and though it never made an impact in my home of Canada, I connect with Oceanliner in a very meaningful way.

I own an excellent Japanese remastered cd of Oceanliner that I would not want to be without. It is, for me, a positive listening experience. I give it four stars.
