4 stars Funny thing happened on the way to the beach this year.... I've owned this album for over a decade, but I didn't realize how good it was until I popped it in this weekend while driving. Here is what makes this album so unique: circa 2025 we can say Yes has had two "main" vocalists - those being Jon Anderson and Jon Davison, but there are two other albums that are one-offs in that they had different vocalists - those albums being Drama and this one. This is a really unique and creative album. Jon Anderson tends to dominate most Yes albums in a way that this one doesn't - don't get me wrong, Fragile, Relayer, and Close to the Edge are among the best albums in the history of rock, but when Anderson is removed it gives the other band members a chance to shine. Clearly Howe and Squire are all over this album. As for songs, the six-part Fly From Here suite, Life on a Film Set, and Into the Storm stand out. I'm also a big fan of Mystery so Benoit David is an excellent choice right behind the old JA. Finally, don't buy the Trevor Horn re-do that came out in 2018; not that it is bad, it just doesn't add anything. I give this a 3.75 rounding up to a 4 only because it has some weak tracks.
