3 stars 3.5 stars. I have been putting off this review long enough. After a couple of poorly rated albums to open their careers NEEDLEPOINT hit one out with "Aimless Mary" from 2015. I don't know if it was the new drummer Olaf Olsen that inspired them but this same 4 piece lineup would make 2 more albums after that 2015 masterpiece, including the one I'm reviewing today. While I felt "Aimless Mary" was a 5 star record, I also felt that their 2021 release "Walking Up That Valley" matched it.

"The Diary Of Robert Reverie" is from 2018 and was released right in between those two brilliant records. And as my rating shows this was a disappointment for me. Same style and everything, just not nearly as engaging. Like going to through the motions or lacking inspiration. Just my take. I found it interesting that in the thank you section two of the band members thank other musicians for lending them their instruments for this recording. Again a ton of lyrics but as usual it's not a problem.

My favourite part of listening to this CD was the drumming. So active much of the time. He really sits tall over his drums if you ever watch him. This is one of those albums where I don't have favourite tracks or a least favourite song. Consistent but not very memorable. Still, it's NEEDLEPOINT and it's always great to hear the sound they are known for. I would rate their latest "Remnants Of Light" ahead of this one as well. This has not clicked with me and I'm quite surprised. A 34 minute record with nine tracks. Not a 4 star record in my world.
